About the Chesapeake East Calendar Guide
We started the Calendar Guide 5 years ago to meet two needs:
One: There wasn’t an advertising vehicle that offered us a satisfying return on our investment.
Two: There was no place to turn to find out what was going on around the Delmarva Peninsula.
As environmentalists we feel strongly that if we are going to use up natural resources, the product must be pro-community and useful. We don’t over-print, in fact every magazine gets picked up within one week of distribution, leaving people clamoring for more. These folks routinely make a trip to our advertisers to get their copy each month, a clear way we can help steer the public to our advertisers.
The Chesapeake East Calendar Guide is printed on recycled paper with soy inks:
- Opened flat & covered with hay or mulch- they will keep the weeds down in your garden.
- Candace of Green Cleaning makes colorful beads by cutting the CE pages into tapered strips and rolling them around a wire.
- Many folks have informed us they have a full collection of CE Calendar Guides, referring to the helpful articles, recipes and garden info.
Finally, after working with big international companies, I felt I wanted to redirect my energies locally. (small . green . local) My notion was that if I supported beneficial community non-profits they could redirect monies saved from listing their events for free in the Calendar Guide and a flurry of individually focused calendars could be combined into one easy reference. (Further saving printing, postage and labor focus for the nonprofits, and environmentally saving resources and “desk clutter” for all of us.) I hoped the concept of “what goes around comes around” would eventually reflect strong community support of the Calendar guide. Economically challenging times have put us in an interesting spot. The public clamors for more Calendar Guides to be produced and distributed, while those we support through our free listings have little or no funding to take paying ads for their events. We are pleased that our website provides easy access to our online magazine and direct links to the valuable resources included in each month’s calendar and helpful articles.
Our Delmarva readers are your target demographic!
Active, educated, environmentally aware, community and culturally minded folks of all ages who love living here on Delmarva. Young and old, families, single adults, both men and women turn to the CE Calendar Guide for interesting articles and neat things to do.
